A new Life With Covid-19

More Restrictions and More Stress

We are all reading about borders closing here in Spain, each autonomous governments making their own decisions, and a possible lock down. Can we cope with this again? Infectious disease outbreaks like Sars and Covid-19 can be extremely scary and affect our mental health in a huge way. While it is important to keep informed from the news and WHO there are also things we can do to manage our well being and mental health during these times.

Our team at Caring for You at Home are continuing our valuable work as usual but have concerns regarding hospital treatments as people awaiting operations are possibly going to have to wait. Cancer patients need their chemo and radiation treatment so desperately that we hope this 2nd wave does not affect their recovery. Anyone under hospital treatment will hopefully not be affected and their health care will continue.

A lot of us will be staying at home more and many of our regular social life and activities will cease. For us things have  certainly changed as at least 5 people in our neighbourhood have tested positive. So, more time in the garden for us which is not a problem at all. The sun is still shining so we may as well stock up on vitamin D.

I think it helps to look at it as a period in your life where things change yet not in a bad way but positive. I certainly noticed our feathered friends more and now have a lovely moment feeding them in a morning after their wonderful wake-up songs. We didn´t choose this situation yet it is upon us so we have to stay safe and at the same time stay sane.

During these times our rhythm of life will change and we will meet family and friends in different ways. It is however important to do just that and use social media, your phone, WhatsApp etc. Even if we just check in and say ‘how are you doing’ it´s appreciated.

Creating a new daily routine can help in lots of ways but make most of it about you. Looking after yourself like reading a good book, cooking, trying a new exercise, watching a documentary instead of a film, just doing different things will make this time count. This is also a good time to study something you have always been interested whether it´s a certificate based course or just for fun.

Try to Avoid Speculation

Watching the news and following social media rumours can add to your anxiety. It is important to follow reputable information sources like WHO as our Governments offer updates but some seem confusing and some information about Covid figures can be inaccurate. Dying from Covid-19 is different to have tested positive. There are so many people with health issues who have passed away having tested positive but it is not explained that they didn´t actually die from it.

From all the team please stay safe and hopefully I can write something more positive soon.
